Known for their serene beauty and wonderful peaceful surroundings, Mcleodganj and Dharmsala are the ideal places to rejuvenate oneself through yoga, meditation, and introspection. This is the reason so many travelers come here to learn about Tibetan Buddhism, meditation and Yoga. There are many techniques of Yoga. You can select the one you prefer, be it the sahaj (simple) yoga or the Hath (complex) yoga. Sight seeing is kept to a minimum, as you can spend more time alone in the company of mother nature and get to know yourself better. Below, we give you a sample itinerary, but it can be modified to suit your needs.

DAY 1: Arrive at Mcleodganj

From Delhi or Chandigarh we come to Mcleodganj, where we check in our hotels or yoga ashrams , shower and relax. Spend the day exploring the beauty of this untouched town.

DAY 2:  Yoga- Getting started

We begin the day early in the morning with your first yoga session. Be prepared to understand the underlying principles, key features and benefits of this great Indian science. The small training session will help you learn the basics and certain simple Yoga postures also known as asanas. This will be followed by lunch. After some rest we can go sight seeing to the Tsuglagkhang monastery, which has the three cornered Buddha idols of Sakyamuni Buddha, Avalokitesvara, and Padmasambhava.These idols are made in gilded bronze.   There is a lot to explore in Mcleodganj and Dharmsala. People from around the world come here to meditate and pray. You may also get a chance to see the monks of varied backgrounds engaged in debate or meditation. A visit then to Norbulingka Institute (Jewel Garden) where you many buy some art or books, as this place is an important one for Tibetan Buddhists with regards to their art and culture. We go to visit the monastery and museum with a gold roof, the Dip Thekchen Choeling Monastery as we end our sight seeing for today.

DAY 3:  Beginning of Yoga Asanas

.Early morning yoga sessions mark the beginning of the day as we perform this outdoors or within the ashram. You will be exposed to a deeper understanding of the Yoga asanas, and they will be more complex than yesterday. These asanas are not only a wonderful exercise for the whole body to stretch it out, but also help to connect the mind and body, and heal some old ailments, if practiced properly. This session continues up to lunch, after which we take a small walk and go to Bhagsu Naag and the nearby Bhagsu waterfall, where you can swim in the pool near the temple for some relaxation. Daylight permitting, we can visit the St. John’s Church in the Wilderness which is also very scenic.

DAY 4: Yoga for soul searching

Moving on to more advanced sessions, today we dig deeper into the recesses of our mind, as we perform meditation, some yogic exercises and delve into our selves. Focus your attention away from your worries of everyday life and take this peace along with you. Time for lunch and then the star attraction, some deep tissue massage, and a hot shower (if suggested). If you are up for it and if we have time, we can go and take a walk in Dharmkot to sink in the magic of nature.

DAY 5: Knowing the Yogi within you

Put to use your knowledge about meditation and yoga today. Practice all the asanas, and review you meditation techniques. The instructor will closely watch you and help you out. This session is important as what you learnt needs to be put into practice and it is also important that you practice this training in the correct way. Lunch and then some rest and relaxation. We can also go for sight seeing to the Dal Lake and walk up to Naddi to delve in the beauty of the sunset, at the Dhauladhar mountain ranges.

DAY 6:  Being a Yogi for life

The Yoga session today will help you balance  in harmonies in your practice of Yoga and Meditation. The instructor will fine tune you for further developments and to make these into a happy routine, beneficial to your life. You will be free, then to discover the surroundings or some sightseeing on your own.

DAY 7: Return Journey- Home

You will want to spend the morning in tune with the other tourist and with your instructor, revising and comparing notes, all into one short yoga session. Breakfast will be served early. Then you can proceed to your return journey via car or bus.
